Can we meet you sir?
I’m Victor A. Adebayo Esq. A barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
How does life after school feels to you sir?
Well, life after school has been fair, I’m still in the starting stage, I have not really pictured how it will be, but with the little I have seen, it’s going well, and I look further for more greatness in this “outside world”..
As a new wig called to bar, what are your expectations about the legal system?
Well, I expect to be the best in the legal world, one thing I believe is that being a lawyer is not a guarantee for success but it is a vital ground for greatness, I just want to be the best at all that I do.
What to you sir,are some main personality traits of a successful lawyer?
I think the traits of a successful lawyer is diligence, only a diligent man can succeed in this profession, also willingness to learn, being a lawyer for me is not a stoppage for learning, I learn everyday. I will like to quote the words of the Great Lord Denning that said; “ God forbid that a lawyer knows all the law, so one will keep learning and learning.
Also, a lawyer that wants to be successful must be logical and rational in reasoning, and be ready to make researches at all times.
Kindly tell me what the significance of interpersonal skills for a lawyer should include as a legal practitioner in Nigeria:
Interpersonal skills is a very essential tool for a lawyer, it is a competence facilitating interaction and communication with others, in the law school we were taught duties of a lawyer to the courts, colleagues and most especially clients, as a lawyer it is of utmost importance to have a positive attitude towards everyone you come across and not just your clients. It is necessary and compulsory to keep a good relationship with people at all times,as a lawyer; you are a solution provider, you must be able to communicate freely, with good listening skills.
Also good negotiation skills is very important likewise self confidence.
Note: Nobody will give a standard, you have to give yourself the standard that you want.
Tell us sir your area of expertise and why you decided to major in that field
My area of expertise is Corporate law practice. I chose this because of my passion for corporate law while in the university. Also, I believe that the solution to Nigeria’s problem is in the corporate world as we have lost soo many things in our financial institutions, organizations, government parastatals/ministries, and if this is not corrected, we might never get the financial freedom that we need in Nigeria.
To cut it short, I have identified soo many problems in the corporate world, there are soo many loopholes in it that I think I can correct, so basically; I’m trying to influence my world through corporate law practice.
God help me!
Is there any motive behind the emergence of the Veecee Success Stories Organization?
Well, the motive behind Veecee Success Stories is just my passion for success. I love it when I see people do great things, right from my childhood, I have always had passion for success. I love inspiring people to achieve the heights they want for themselves,so it’s just the word INSPIRATION, I love to inspire people. I love to see people attain the peak of their goals, so that is why I think CELEBRATING SUCCESS WILL INSPIRE SUCCESS, and I’m glad I have been able to achieve that to an extent, and I look forward to more people getting inspired by the success that we celebrate.
Do you plan to expand the horizon of the organization soon?
Yes,definitely! My dream is to have a Tv station called VSS TV where we will have to bring important and high profiles person around the world to grant them an interview.
Also have a VSS Magazine where people will read about great people whom have achieved good success into their world.
Lastly, we have one of the largest awards in the world to celebrate success.
This is my dream and I believe it will come very soon.
What advice do you have for various law students who are still having bitter times while in the university?
Law students having bitter times, hmmmmmmm. God, hardwork and dedication; is the key to success. One thing that kept me going in the university was that, there is no smooth raid to success, on your way to success you would encounter one problem or the other; so never loose focus, pray well, it will be well.
Recently, the Human Right Group; SERAP dragged President Mohammadu Buhari to court over illegal plan to monitor WhatsApp messages and phone calls; what to you sir, is your legal view on that; any legal implications?
The right to privacy is one of the fundamental human rights entrenched in the Nigerian Constitution. Section 37 of the 1999 constitution provides that: “The privacy of citizens, their homes, correspondence, telephone convert and telegraphic communications is hereby guaranteed and protected.”
Also The Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention Etc) Act, provides a legal and regulatory framework that roju its, prevents, detects, prosecuted and punishes cybercrimes in Nigeria. The Act requires financial institutions to retain and protect data and criminalizes the interception of electronic communications.
So, it is crystal clear that such act that wants to be commenced by the president would not see the light of the day. This laws have been in existence even before his emergence as the president of Nigeria, and I’m very sure he would not want to breach the rule of democracy.
There are soo many legal implications of the breach of the breach of the right to privacy. See the case of Anthon Pillar v. Manufacturing Process Ltd.
Asides from law, do you plan getting into other engagements ?
Lol, there is nothing asides law, it is law or nothing, but then the call to ministry can come in, I will gladly yield to the call, thank you!
